Alpine, our startup located in downtown Mountain View, is looking for a R&D Engineer to help us develop and test an exciting new mass-market, consumer healthcare product. The R&D engineer is responsible for in-vitro performance evaluation of prototypes. The R&D engineer develops test protocols, solves test & measurement challenges, prepares prototypes for evaluation, inspects prototypes, evaluates parts for safety and efficacy, and reports summarized findings to the team. The R&D engineer designs, assembles and maintains test set-ups and fixtures, and maintains laboratory equipment. The R&D engineer is detail-oriented, communicative, and highly creative in developing methods to draw out enlightening data with well-formed studies.


Here's what you'll be doing on day one:

  • Work with our clinical and mechanical engineers to create and maintain test protocols

  • Solve test & measurement challenges

  • Develop, assemble, troubleshoot, and modify test set-ups and fixtures

  • Measure and document critical prototype dimensions to verify quality

  • Test prototypes for safety, accuracy, and efficacy

  • Maintain records of test runs and results; summarize and disseminate results

  • Provide feedback and assist with creation of prototypes


  • Bachelors in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience in test/laboratory setting

  • Basic machine shop experience

  • Basic measurement and instrumentation experience

  • Basic CAD experience (SolidWorks)

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic statistics education (desired)

  • Advanced measurement and instrumentation experience (desired)

  • Test automation and Python or similar programming experience (desired)

  • Sense of humor
